Ivan Herrera

Photographer and director of photography born in Bogotá (1977), where he studied Biology and Photography. His work, which has been exhibited in multiple collective and individual exhibitions, is developed in urban and rural contexts, and focuses on the observation of daily routines. In 2007 and 2013 he was the winner of the National Call for Plastic and Visual Arts, with the series “La ventana” and the series “Retratos anacrónicos” that were exhibited at the Galería Santafé. In 2012 he published his photography book “Postales de viaje” from the Los Inmigrantes II collection, Ed. El Peregrino Ediciones.

In 2021 he received the National Photography Award from the Ministry of Culture of Colombia with “Sabana”, a series of snapshot photographs of rural landscapes, exhibited at the Pereira Art Museum and at the Casa Hoffmann gallery in Bogotá.

In the audiovisual field, he has participated as director of photography in the feature films “Malta” (SXSW, Austin, 2024), and “La defensa del dragón” (Cannes, 2017), a film inspired by his photographic series “Sobreviviente” and “Lasker”, which portray traditional places in downtown Bogotá.

He is currently preparing his second book of photographs based on the series “Sabana”.
